Radio Pulsars Data Sets. <strong>Coding Langage.<\/strong> Supercollider<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-2 wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p class=\"wp-elements-84d62048e51fefd965760528328fb814 has-text-align-center has-background has-link-color\" style=\"background-color:#0000004d\"><strong>RADIO PULSARS (2020)<\/strong> an installation about Neutron Stars. <br><br>Inspired by the scientific sonifications from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jodrellbank.net\/explore\/science\/telescopes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jodrell Bank Observatory<\/a>, Radio Pulsars was created as an etude, to study the interactive <strong>potential playfulness of scientific sounds<\/strong> through MIDI controllers.  In this piece, I coded sounds mimicking the aesthetic quality of already-made <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jb.man.ac.uk\/research\/pulsar\/Education\/Sounds\/\" target=\"_blank\">pulsars\u2019 sonifications<\/a> from the Jodrell Bank Observatory. I used data sets from the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.epta.eu.org\/epndb\/\" target=\"_blank\">European Pulsar Timing Array<\/a>. I also programmed MIDI controllers to start and stop these sounds, and change the speed ratio at which the data is being read, which creates diverse and surprising sound artifacts.<br><br>In the installation, two MIDI controllers are positioned in front of each other.&nbsp; The participants enter the room, and by pressing buttons on the controllers, they play the sound of the stars. As a sounding result, complex and surprising textures and sonic movements are created, capturing the attention of the participants in a playful interactive environment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:43px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-5 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-4 wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-red-color has-ast-global-color-4-background-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><strong>To perform this installation I need a dark room with four speakers. In the room, there are two MIDI controllers connected to a small computer. When the participant presses a button on the controller, the computer creates a sonification assigned to that button beforehand.&nbsp;The data of a&nbsp;star is transformed into sound, and by moving the knobs, the reading speed of data changes. This produces alterations in the outcoming sound, so what sounded percussive is transformed into strange melodies, allowing small nuances to be amplified by our&nbsp;<strong>curious interaction!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:107px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-12 wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video controls src=\"http:\/\/crozzoli.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/radiopulsarsplay.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-16 wp-block-columns has-ast-global-color-4-background-color has-background\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-14 wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-ast-global-color-4-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\"><strong>4.
